What is an eyelid lift?
It is often said that “the eyes are the window to the soul”. The eyes are the first thing that people notice when they look at you. Having an open-eyed and refreshed look portrays a more vibrant and youthful appearance. An eyelid lift and/or eye bag removal addresses drooping or puffy eyes and creates a more rested and youthful appearance. This surgical procedure removes excess fat, muscle and skin from the upper and lower eyelids, which leads to a young and rested appearance.
How is it performed?
Since the skin of the upper eyelid is the thinnest skin of the entire body, it is one of the first areas to stretch out, and make you look tired or worn out. The procedure removes the skin above your eyelid creases, while insuring that your eyelids are able to close. It essentially removes a pinch of excess skin above the eyelids along with any excess protruding fat pads. Some patients have minimal or no excess eyelid skin while others have an abundant amount of extra eyelid fatty tissues. The amount of extra fat is determined at the time of surgery and only the appropriate amount is removed.
The lower eyelids are equally important in giving you a fresh, natural appearance. Protruding fat pads and droopy skin in your lower eyelids will make you look much older and/or more tired. Removal of the fat pads of the lower eyelid and tightening the orbital septum (the tissue that keeps your eyelids smooth) will give you a nice smooth appearance. Skin is tightened either by cutting a wedge (resecting) of the excess skin, or tightening the collagen with laser resurfacing or facial peeling. The fatty tissue of the lower eyelid can even be repositioned to eliminate or improve the so-called tear trough deformity

What can I expect after an eyelid lift?
The upper eyelid blepharoplasty is probably the easiest facial cosmetic procedure to recover from, while providing the most noticeable results. Most patients can resume normal activities within two weeks after an eyelid procedure. There may still be some bruising and swelling, but the majority will have subsided.
