What is a mini-lift, cheek lift or mid-lift?
If you are in the early stages of aging due to relaxation of the tissues in your cheek, have slight jowling along the jawline, or an increase in the depth of the folds between your nose and your lateral lip (nasolabial folds), you will benefit from a mini-lift.

The upper cheek and lower eyelid areas of the face often flatten and lengthen as you age. A mini-face lift, also known as a cheek lift or mid-lift, is a facial rejuvenation procedure that addresses tissues that have relaxed in your cheek, slight jowling along the jawline, and/or an increase in the depth of the folds, or smile lines, between your nose and your lateral lip (nasolabial folds). A mini-lift increases the fullness of the eyes and cheeks by elevating the cheek’s fat pad, which creates a natural, refreshed and younger-looking appearance.

A mini-lift addresses a specific area of the face, so the doctor may recommend other pairing it with other procedures such as a Brow Lift to achieve more dramatic results.

How is a mini-lift performed?
Mini-lifts are an outpatient procedure. Using local anesthesia with sedation, Dallas facial plastic surgeon Dr. John Standefer makes small incisions around the hairline and ear to elevate the drooping cheek tissue (malar fat pad). To ensure long-lasting results with less relaxation of the jowls, Dr. Standefer elevates and repositions the layer below the skin (SMAS). Once the cheek tissue is pulled up, nasolabial laugh lines around the mouth are also reduced. Sutures are placed in the fat pad, then it is pulled back up to its original position.

Recovery takes 7-10 days. Patients usually experience moderate discomfort with minimal bruising and swelling, which can be eased using ice for the first 24-48 hours. Computer work, paperwork and bookwork can be performed comfortably following surgery. Pain is typically controlled well with Tylenol, but some patients do not require any pain medication. Patients may return to normal physical activities within 2-3 weeks.

Results are noticeable after the bruising and swelling subside. The full outcome is typically visible after a couple of months. Complete healing is achieved in 3-6 months.
