Overview

The facelift procedure repositions tissues that have descended from the cheek into the folds around your mouth and into the jowls along the jaw line. The FreshLift facelift also addresses any sagging or loose skin around the neck. Excess fat under the chin and around the jawline can be removed with liposuction.

By tightening the muscles underneath the chin and removing the excess fatty tissues in the chin and the neck, you will get the best profile possible. Dallas’ expert facelift surgeon, Dr. John Standefer, ensures that his patient’s new appearance never look overdone, over-stretched or unnatural.

Before 1970, a facelift was done by simply lifting the skin of the face, pulling it back, and trimming it before suturing it back in place. The skin would stretch postoperatively so patients didn’t get a very long-lasting result. In the 70’s the “SMAS” facelift was described where the skin was elevated and the second layer down (the SMAS or superficial myoaponuerotic system) was merely tightened in a posterior and superior direction. Patients loved the results because they got a much longer-lasting result. Unfortunately, no matter how tight the SMAS was tightened, the skin would eventually stretch and the jowls would reappear. To prevent the sometimes early reappearance of the jowls, the SMAS layer was lifted in the “deep plane” and repositioned vertically attaching it to the strong tissues on the cheekbone or zygoma. Hence the “deep plane, vertical facelift “ was born.  It is the most advanced and long-lasting facelift available today. It is the standard facelift here at Fresh Image and has been for some time. Dr. Standefer combines this with his fine-tuning techniques that he has perfected in the neck to give stunning, long-lasting results.

I have successfully performed almost 8,000 facelifts. Few people can say that. Since I have been doing this for so many years, I’ve learned the nuances – I know what to do to provide the best results.

Downtime.

Is downtime required?

Yes. For most of our patients, 1 week. We remove sutures 7 days after surgery and any residual swelling or bruising should be easily camouflaged with makeup or hairstyle.

Procedure time.

About 2 hours under local anesthesia.

Recovery.

How long does it take to recover a facelift?

Recovery takes 10 to 30 days for most patients. Patients experience varying bruising and swelling. Total recovery time depends on your body’s healing process.
