What is a facial rejuvenation with fat transfer?
The natural aging process causes us to lose about 10% of the fat in our face at around the age of 35 and an additional 5-10% every 5-10 years thereafter. By the time you reach the age of 55, you may have lost up to 40% of the fat in your face. This loss of volume leads to a loss of structural support in the face, which causes sagging.

Facial rejuvenation using the fat transfer method, sometimes referred to as fat grafting, can be used to correct sagging of the tissues or the jowls along the jawline and around the eyes. It can also reverse loss of volume, which naturally occurs with aging. Transfer of fatty tissue to the face to improve volume has become quite common over the last 25 years. Fat can be transferred to most areas of the face to create extra volume including the lips, cheeks, forehead, nasolabial folds and around the eyes.

How is facial rejuvenation with fat transfer performed?
Facial rejuvenation with fat transfer is a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure and is performed under local anesthesia with sedation. Fat is harvested using liposuction from areas of your body where extra fat resides, such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks or love handles. It is then processed to remove unwanted fluids and damaged fat cells, leaving pure fat tissue, a 100% natural filler. The fat is transferred by injection into the desired areas of your face. Once the transfer is complete, the surgeon closes the liposuction incision with sutures. The results are visible immediately, last several years and have a very natural appearance.

What can I expect during recovery for a face rejuvenation with fat transfer?
Swelling, bruising and soreness are common at the liposuction site, as well as the treatment site during recovery, but resolve within 7-14 days. At night, you should sleep with your head elevated on pillows or in a reclining chair to minimize swelling. You can gradually increase physical activities after 1-2 weeks and you can return to normal or strenuous activities after 3-4 weeks.
