What is otoplasty or ear pinning?
Otoplasty, also known as ear pinning, repositions protruding ears and/or re-contours oddly shaped ears, such as a lop ear or cup ear. Dallas otoplasty surgeon Dr. Standefer performs this simple, minimally invasive procedure on children, men and women who are self-conscious about the way their ears look. The results of ear pinning can produce a more attractive, balanced look.

How is otoplasty performed?
This outpatient, in-office procedure is performed using local anesthetic with sedatives for relaxation. A small, hidden incision is made on the back of the ear, allowing Dr. Standefer to sculpt and bend the ear cartilage back towards the head. Permanent sutures are placed inside the surgical area to hold the position. Temporary sutures are used to close the incision.

How much does otoplasty cost?
The cost of otoplasty depends on the needs of the patient. For exact pricing, please schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Standefer. Easy FINANCING OPTIONS are available.

What can I expect during recovery for an otoplasty?
The head is wrapped in a bandage immediately after surgery to ensure the ears are held tightly to the head. This helps mold and heal the ears. Pain medication may be administered for the moderate ache that is common for 3-5 days. Stitches are removed 5-7 days after surgery.
Most adults and children return back to their normal activities within 1 week of surgery. Any physical activity that could involve contact with the ear should be avoided for 1 month. Aerobic activity may be resumed 2 weeks after surgery.
