By your 40s, laugh lines and creases may have taken up permanent residence around your eyes, mouth and forehead. Your skin may need a boost to reflect its once youthful and supple appearance.
In your 30s, you may have replaced trusted skincare products for gentler, vitamin-infused alternatives. Then again, if you passed through life never feeling like you’ve aged a day, there is a good chance that your skin care regimen needs a makeover.

This is the time to treat and pamper your skin, as well as, prepare for the inevitable symptoms of aging that will appear in your 50s.

Cleanse

Use a gentle cleanser twice a day. Visit a dermatologist for recommendations on the best cleansers for your skin type.

Hydrate

Moisturizing should begin from inside. The old adage “drink 8 glasses of water a day” has been debunked, but not the fact that water is an essential nutrient. If you haven’t cut back on sugar-laden beverages, do so now and replace these thirst quenchers with refreshing water.

Use a quality moisturizer, twice a day

This is the time to splurge. Your moisturizer is one product that will make a great impact on the appearance of your skin. Choose a couple of products that contain antioxidants and vitamins (especially A and E). The incorporation of collagen may help improve your skin’s elasticity. Be sure to pick a product for day wear and another specific for night use. And, of course, be sure that it contains SPF 30.

Pay special attention to the eyes

When we feel tired, it shows in our eyes. Unfortunately, they are also the first places where the skin thins. Prevent looking perpetually tired by applying an eye cream or serum each night before bed.

Exfoliate

Keep younger, fresh-looking cells at the forefront of your skin by gently washing away dead cells.

Keep an eye on diet

We are what we eat. Dine on fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and beans daily to get the essential vitamins and minerals that foster a healthy glow. Remember, the skin is the largest organ in the body and its appearance will reflect your overall health. Eating a well-balanced diet will also prevent further signs of aging as you enter your 50s.
